Berne Animal Park
Bears have been kept in Bern since 1513. Until 1857 they were in the City itself, then in the «Bear Pit» and, from 2009, in the «BearPark». «Dählhölzli Zoo» opened at its present location in 1937. In 1954, 1675 animals were kept here. Since 1997 the zoo’s motto has been «More room for fewer animals».
BearPark
The «Bear Park» was opened in autumn 2009. This park, specially created to be suitable for the bears, has replaced the «Bear Pit» as home to the Bernese heraldic animal. The bears can be observed playing, swimming and eating. Open 365 days per year, entrance is free.
